How Can You Get a Protective Order?

We provide compassionate advocacy for your needs during this difficult time, and we will take strong, decisive action on your behalf. According to Nebraska’s Protection from Domestic Abuse Act, you can get a protective order against someone if you experienced the following:

  • He or she attempted to cause bodily harm or actually caused you physical harm.
  • You feared for your bodily safety or the safety of your children.
  • He or she made you engage in nonconsensual sexual acts or inappropriate contact.

A protective order against a particular person means he or she cannot come within a certain distance of you, and he or she cannot make contact with you for the duration of the order. These orders are usually valid for a maximum of one year.
