Life may never be the same again for four people arrested on drug charges last week following an investigation involving cooperation between city and state authorities in western Nebraska. A search of the home and car belonging to one individual revealed additional information that led to the arrests of three others on Class IV felony drug charges as well as possession of drug paraphernalia, which is an infraction.

The initial search took place at a home in the 300 block of Cedar Street in Chadron, Nebraska. The resident arrived in his vehicle just as authorities came to the scene to conduct a search of his residence. A vehicle search prompted by the smell of marijuana coming from the car, and also noticeable on the resident’s person, allegedly yielded miscellaneous items of drug paraphernalia, 1 gram of methamphetamine and 3 grams of marijuana. The planned search of the residence reportedly yielded trace amounts of marijuana and methamphetamine along with more paraphernalia.

Authorities then obtained and executed a search warrant for a second Chadron residence on the basis of additional information, arresting three more people and allegedly seizing numerous cell phones, pipes, hypodermic needles, scales and baggies as evidence, as well as individual bags of marijuana and prescription pills packaged for sale, along with approximately 3 grams of methamphetamine.

Authorities offer the possibility of cash rewards to those who call in tips about suspected criminal activity, and law enforcement credits public assistance in helping to make arrests like this. Those charged with drug crimes may find it helpful to discuss the case with an attorney as the consequences of a conviction can be severe.
