Fight Your DUI Charges. Contact Us Today.

If you have been arrested for a drunk driving offense in Nebraska, you will no doubt be wanting to learn as much as you can so that you can appropriately defend yourself against the charges. One of the important things for you to know about is what processes or steps are required to be involved in the administration of the field sobriety tests.

One of the tests that is commonly used in a drunk driving investigation is called the one-leg stand test. As explained by, before you are ever asked to do anything or take this test, the police officer involved is required to thoroughly explain how the test will work. This instruction portion of the experience should also be accompanied by a live demonstration by the officer.

After giving you the instructions and demonstration, the officer is supposed to confirm with you that you understand what you are supposed to do. Only then should you be instructed to perform the test. If you are overweight or have problems with your leg or hip joints, you might not be able to pass this test even if you have not been drinking. The same is true if you have had injuries or surgeries on your feet or ankles. In general, this test has an accuracy rate of only 65 percent.

This information is not intended to provide legal advice but is instead meant to give residents in Nebraska an overview of what the one-leg stand test really entails and what types of conditions may interfere with their ability to pass it.
