Man arrested after altercation on freeway

On Behalf of | Jul 15, 2018 | Felonies |

People in Nebraska know that when they are driving their cars they should always be aware of how other drivers might respond to situations or actions. It is also important that everyone drive safely and follow the basic traffic laws to help minimize accidents from happening. In some situations, one driver might become impatient with another and this may trigger an unfortunate series of events.

On the Fourth of July along a stretch of Interstate 80 at about the 20 mile marker point, some people in a minivan were apparently annoyed with another driver’s speed through a construction zone. The report from 1011 Now does not state what the posted speed limit was through the contstruction area where the freeway traffic was reduced to one lane but the small passenger car is said to have been driving at 45 miles per hour.

The driver of the van honked at the car in an effort to make the car driver speed up rather than simply being patient and appreciating the fact that the car driver might have been being respectful of the construction zone and trying to be safe. The van driver also flashed headlights at the car from behind it.

After leaving the single-lane section, the van started to pass the car on the right instead of waiting for the car to move over so the van could pass safely on the left. The driver of the car is said to have fired shots at the van and has now been charged with assault and the use of a weapon to commit a felony. It is not known if the van driver was cited at all for speeding or any other violation.
